DeWalt DXFRS220 Wearable Walkie Talkie Overview

Throughout our DeWalt DXFRS220 review and analysis, we were impressed by the versatility and durability of the device. The DeWalt DXFRS220 is a heavy duty wearable walkie talkie from the reputed DeWalt brand. DeWalt is known for their high-end construction devices, which are sturdy and durable. Their DXFRS220 does not disappoint, bringing that same well thought out design and dependability to individuals and businesses to serve their communication needs. We highly recommend the DeWalt DXFRS220 for business, industrial, and adult users who want a push to talk, hands free option which can attach to their body or equipment for easy use.

DeWalt DXFRS220 Features

The DeWalt DXFRS220 is a wearable walkie talkie, though it is sometimes called a walkie talkie watch, as you can attach it easily to your jacket pocket, shirt sleeve, belt buckle, or other area. This feature is provided by the changeable belt clip that can be adjusted and applied as needed. That said, it doesn’t technically have a watch face so don’t expect to tell the time with it! We love the great range that the DXFRS220 provides. You can expect about 100,000 square feet of communication coverage, depending upon your location and terrain. This means that if you’re at a construction site, a restaurant, or any other large worksite or area, you can feel confident you’ll be able to communicate easily with these devices. This means they are great for multi-level structures, but also offer good horizontal range. The DXFRS220 is great because you can operate mostly hands-free when needed, meaning you can operate machinery or use handheld equipment safely. You only need to push to talk, as opposed to having to hold the device fully in your hand.

The DeWalt DXFRS220 offers 22 channels for your communication needs, and a solid audio output which makes it easy to hear even if it is attached to your waist or arm.  It is compatible with all other consumer walkie talkies, meaning you can connect it with other DeWalt devices and other brand’s FRS two-way radios. It comes with standard walkie talkie features like confirmation tone and keystroke signal, but more importantly drop resistance and a grippy design. DeWalt suggests that DXFRS220 comes with up to two meter drop resistance, meaning most falls will not damage the walkie talkies seriously and thus you can be assured of their durability. We also would emphasize that this means any damage from drops is likely covered by their LIFETIME warranty plan, a big plus. On top of that, DeWalt advertises IPX4 water resistance, which is an added benefit for those working or using near water.

Power and Charge

The DeWalt DXFRS220 is powered by rechargeable lithium polymer batteries, which can be charged by an included micro-USB charging cable. While DeWalt suggests up to ten hours of battery life, we believe you should expect closer to seven or eight hours under most conditions. This will work for most customers hoping for construction / outdoor daily use, with a recharge session at night.

The DeWalt DXFRS220 weights 9 ounces, which is fairly light considering its sturdy design and use profile. Its dimensions are around 2 x 2 x 1, which makes it very portable and handy for use by both children and adults. It is quite easy to clip to your belt or shirt given that size, and its portability and wearable nature are thus its main features.

DeWalt DXFRS220 Conclusion

Overall, our DeWalt DXFRS220 review concludes with it being our favorite wearable walkie talkie. While most walkie talkies watches or wearable walkie talkies are built for kids or seniors, the DeWalt brand prides itself on great design and materials and they bring that ethos to the DXFRS220. If you’re planning on use on a job site, business, or in an otherwise vertical and horizontal environment, and want PTT / hands-free communication, you can’t go wrong with this device’s accessibility and feature set. We fully recommend the DeWalt DXFRS220, and suggest you take a closer look at it for all your wearable and portable walkie talkie needs!
